Access
Barcelona Zoo has two entrances: one of them in Ciutadella Park and another on Carrer Wellington. Both are fully accessible.
Itinerary inside the zoo
Most areas of the zoo are fully accessible. In some parts, where there are variations in level, such as the terrarium (at the exit) or the dolphinarium, alternative entrances have been set up to allow access for people with reduced mobility.
Panes of glass have been fitted in many areas to allow wheelchair users, children and people who are short in stature to see the animals more easily.
Nevertheless, some areas of the zoo present accessibility difficulties. This is the case with the Aquarama exhibit which isn't accessible at present for people with reduced mobility, although a tender has been issued for building work to improve the facilities and accessibility. Other zones, such as the end of the walkways above the elephant and giraffe enclosures, have steep flights of steps or ramps.
Wheelchair users or other people with reduced mobility cannot gain access to some of the eating areas, because they are only accessible via steps, but they can use other picnic areas which are fully accessible. Finally, there are some animal enclosures with steps to give people a better view and some people with reduced mobility may require assistance to climb them.
Adapted toilet
There is an adapted toilet next to the dolphinarium. There is more than enough space inside, making mobility easier. The only aspect that may make access less convenient for people with reduced mobility is the fact that the toilet has a folding door and opens inwards.
Alternative communication systems
At the time of writing, there is no information available as to whether the zoo has audioguides or special systems for the deaf or hearing impaired. Nevertheless, information is available on the zoo website.
