Access
The small step ( 5.5 cm ) at the Museum entrance has a rounded edge to make it easier for wheelchair users to enter the building. It is marked with a coloured strip to make it more visible.
Visiting the galleries
The building has a lift connecting the ground floor, first floor, second floor and fourth floor. There is also a vertical platform lift connecting the fourth and third floors.
The lift complies with most accessibility guidelines and has tactile button panels. Nevertheless, there should be tactile or Braille buttons and floor number signs on the landings.
The gallery spaces are fully accessible as their width more than complies with the minimum accessibility requirements and there are small ramps that bridge the variations in level between some of the galleries.
There are protruding elements in some areas of the Museum which aren't signed specifically so that the visually impaired will be aware of them. So, for instance, the stairs connecting the second and third floors have nothing around their perimeter to let visually impaired visitors know they are there.
Some of the display cases are too high and structurally inaccessible, making it difficult for wheelchair users or people who are short in stature to view the exhibits.
Adapted toilets
There is an adapted toilet on the ground floor which meets design accessibility specifications.
