Access

The Museum has two entrances. The first one , the main entrance, is reached via a two-stage ramp that leads to the lobby where the ticket desk is located. Both stages of the ramp are slightly longer and steeper than stipulated in accessibility guidelines but the difference is very slight and many wheelchair users can overcome the variations in level unaided. There is also a small rounded step before the start of the ramp and there is no handrail to help people with reduced mobility to bridge the variation in level.

The second entrance is at the side, at one end of the interior courtyard. This entrance allows access to the lift that goes down to floor - 2. From here, visitors can get to the lobby where the ticket desk is located. This entrance presents no major accessibility difficulties. Although the CCCB information desk provides the necessary information about access to the Museum, the signage at the alternative entrance could be improved.

Galleries

There is a lift connecting the different floors where the galleries are located. The dimensions of the lift are slightly smaller than stipulated in the accessibility guidelines, but the difference is so small that this doesn't affect it use. There are Braille and tactile button panels inside the lifts, but not outside.

There is a small ramp at the entrance and exit to the galleries which provides no major problems in terms of accessibility.

The gallery spaces are extremely wide, providing wheelchair users and other people with reduced mobility with more than enough space to move around comfortably and safely, despite high visitor numbers.

The CCCB also has lockers in different parts of the building which have been fitted in such a way that they are accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Adapted toilet

There is an adapted toilet on floor - 2 which has been correctly designed. It should also be pointed out that this toilet has a baby-changing station with signs in Braille.

Other public access areas

Information desk

To get to the information desk there is a small ramp that bridges the variation in level with the step. The ramp is moderately sloping and provides no difficulties for people with reduced mobility.

Wheelchair users can move around the information desk area comfortably and safely.

Bookshop

There is a moderately sloping ramp leading into the bookshop. The doorway also has a clearly contrasting sign to make it easily visible.

The display units are arranged in such a way that people with reduced mobility can gain easy access to the different areas of the shop.

The only aspect that doesn't fully comply with accessibility requirements is the service counter, which is not at a height suitable for wheelchair users or people with reduced mobility.

Alternative communication systems

The CCCB produces a wide variety of publications and leaflets that provide information in a clear and concise way. There are no other specially adapted areas with Braille signage or in enlarged print. All this information is available on the website. In addition to this, there are a number of e-mail addresses which you can contact to request information.
