The Temple of the Sagrada Família is still under construction, meaning that alterations may have been made to the visitor itineraries and the location of specific facilities since the survey. This summary refers to the information gathered at the time of the survey.
Access
Visitors can enter the Temple of the Sagrada Família from Carrer Sardenya and Carrer Marina. The entrance on Carrer Sardenya is a better option for people with reduced mobility as it has an adapted entrance on the right-hand side of the information desk.
Audioguides are available from the information desk on Carrer Sardenya. The information desk area presents a number of accessibility problems: it is located on a step and the counter is too high ( 1.20 m ) to deal with enquiries from wheelchair users and other people with restricted mobility.
There are a number of ramps that make it possible to bridge the different variations in level. Some of the ramps, particularly the one in the centre, have a steep slope (21%) and wheelchair users will need assistance to overcome the variations in level. The ramps at the side are less steep and, although they don't meet all the accessibility requirements, they allow better access for wheelchair users.
Itinerary inside the church
Provisional ramps have been fitted to allow ease of movement inside the nave and access to the other façade. The different areas inside the church present no major accessibility problems.
There are two lifts to the towers . Wheelchair users should not attempt to go to the top of the towers as they are very narrow and present clear manoeuvrability problems.
Other visitable areas inside the church
Museum
There are a number of ramps leading into the Museum, from the Nativity façade and the Passion façade (with two possible routes). Some sections of the ramps are very steep (up to a 19% incline) and wheelchair users will have to request assistance. The most suitable ramp (on an average incline between 8% and 11%) begins at the shop on the Passion façade and goes down towards the Museum between the school building and the church itself.
There are a series of ramps inside the Museum that bridge the existing variations in level. The wooden ramp between the entrance on the Passion façade is the most problematic (the first section has an 18.5% incline). Wheelchair users will need assistance to go up and down the ramp.
Shop
There are two shops (one on either side of the church) which have automatic glass doors for ease of access. The shop on Carrer Sardenya has a small, steep ramp which leads inside.
School building
The school building presents no major accessibility problems, although there is a small step ( 2.5 cm high) at the entrance.
Adapted toilet
The church has two adapted toilets. The one located at the Museum entrance on the Passion façade is easily accessible. The only major drawback is the need to use a ramp with a steep slope (12%) which may make it necessary for wheelchair users to ask for assistance.
The second adapted toilet is located inside the Museum (at the Nativity façade entrance) and presents major accessibility problems for wheelchair users. The main problem lies in the fact that the cubicle doors open inwards and this hinders manoeuvrability. There are double doors outside the cubicle which also make access difficult for wheelchair users.
Alternative communication systems
The church has informative leaflets in different languages that provide information in a clear and concise way. There are no specially adapted signs in Braille or enlarged print for the blind or visually impaired although information is available on the Temple of the Sagrada Família website: www.sagradafamilia.org/ .
Audioguides are available in different languages, although they haven't been designed specifically for blind or visually impaired people or other groups with special needs.
The Temple of the Sagrada Família has an e-mail address which can be contacted to request information: . Tours for groups with special needs can be arranged if sufficient notice is given.
