Access

The Poble Espanyol has two entrances. The one on the left of the ticket booths, which runs parallel to the Avinguda Marquès de Comillas, is the most suitable for wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility as the ground slopes gently allowing for easy access.

However, the ramp on the right of the ticket booths (by the wall) which leads to the main entrance is steep, with an incline of more than 18% in some places, and this may prove problematic for people with reduced mobility who may require assistance to bridge the difference in level safely.

Wheelchair users may also find the entrance on Carrer de theFoixarda problematic as there are sections where the available space on the pavement is too narrow.

There is an alternative entrance at the turnstiles inside the main gate of the Poble Espanyol, which provides easy access for people with reduced mobility.

Itinerary inside the Poble Espanyol

Many parts of the Poble Espanyol are wheelchair accessible. Most of the area between Calle Tercio and the Plaza del Carmen, including part of Calle Arcos, can be visited without any problems.

People with reduced mobility can reach the Plaza Aragonesa, Plaza del Carmen and Plazuethede theIglesia without difficulties through Calle Caballeros and Calle Principe Viana. The inclines in the different sections of these streets are no greater than 12% and present no major problems, so that wheelchair users or people with reduced mobility can bridge the variations in level independently.

Nevertheless, there are some areas that are only accessible using flights of steps and this means that some people with reduced mobility may find access problematic. This is the case with the premises in the Plaza Mayor, between numbers 10 and 20, and the area between Calle Davallada and Calle Levante. Mention must be made of the fact that ergonomically designed handrails have been fitted to the centre of some of the flights of steps, such as the ones on Calle Levante, making it easier for some people with reduced mobility to overcome the variations in level. Some of the premises have installed lift platforms to allow wheelchair users to gain access.

Finally, it must be borne in mind that, given the characteristics of the Poble Espanyol, many of the shop, bar and restaurant entrances have steps. This makes it difficult for wheelchair users to enter unaided and they may need to ask someone for assistance.

Adapted toilet

The Poble Espanyol has several adapted toilets.

The best-equipped ones are located in the Plaza Mayor (one in the men's toilets and another in the ladies'). The only difficulty worth highlighting is the fact that a sink has been placed inside the toilet cubicle in a place that reduces the free space at the side of the toilet which allows wheelchair users to make the transfer from their chair to the toilet .

The toilets in Carrer Tercio, which have a disabled sign, don't fulfil the minimum accessibility requirements. Although the dimensions of the disabled toilet are slightly bigger than usual and it has grab bars, wheelchair users cannot manoeuvre inside or make the transfer from their chair to the toilet.

Alternative communication systems

The Poble Espanyol has informative leaflets in different languages that provide information in a clear and concise way. There are no specially adapted signs in Braille or enlarged print for the blind or visually impaired although information is available on the official website: www.poble-espanyol.com/.

Audioguides are available in different languages, although we are not aware that they have been designed specifically for blind or visually impaired people or other groups with special needs.

The Poble Espanyol has an e-mail address which can be contacted to request information: .
