Access

There are two public entrances.

The first one (main door) has two extremely wide ramps providing access to the main entrance of the Museum. Although the ramp doesn't meet all the accessibility requirements, it is easily accessible for wheelchair users.

The second is the office entrance. This entrance is normally used by people visiting the MNAC library and is fully accessible.

Visiting the galleries

The galleries are extremely wide and provide wheelchair users with sufficient space to move around easily. There are platform lifts, ramps and lifts to bridge all the different levels inside the galleries.

The main difficulty in terms of accessibility are the protruding elements at the exits of some of the galleries which are not properly signed for the blind or visually impaired. This is the case with the structure of the staircase when visitors leave the Romanesque and Gothic galleries.

Other public access areas

Bookstore, shop and restaurant

Accessibility to and manoeuvrability inside the different areas present no difficulties for the disabled.

The service counters are not at a height suitable for wheelchair users or people with reduced mobility and don't comply with accessibility requirements.

Auditorium

Although there are no spaces reserved specifically for the disabled, there is an open space in the upper and lower levels where wheelchairs can be placed. The upper level of the auditorium can be reached by lift. The lifts have tactile button panels.

Library

To get to the library, visitors have to go through the office entrance where there are lifts providing easy access. Alternatively, they can use the lifts in the Oval Hall. At the lift exit there are a series of ramps providing access to the library.

Adapted toilets

It is important to point out that there are several adapted toilets in different areas of the Museum: in the hall, the Oval Hall and library.

They fully comply with most of the accessibility requirements.

Alternative communication systems

Audioguides are available in different languages, although they haven't been designed specifically for blind or visually impaired people.

The Museum has an e-mail address which can be contacted to request information: . The Museum website also provides an alternative source of information.

The Museum organises guided tours for groups with special needs.
