Access

There are two entrances for people with reduced mobility.

The main entrance: the entrance to the main lobby is fully disabled-accessible. To enter the auditorium there is a platform lift up the flight of steps leading to the stalls. From here, visitors can take the lifts to the different floors.

Entrance on the Carrer Sant Pau: this is a street-level entrance which is fully disabled-accessible. From here, visitors can take the lifts to the different floors.

Itinerary

Inside the theatre: the entrance lobbies and corridors leading to the auditorium and other areas (the foyer) are fully accessible.

There are several lifts that provide access to different parts of the theatre.

Seats reserved for wheelchair users

There are two spaces reserved for wheelchair users at the back of the stalls, one in each aisle.

In addition, should the need arise, two other wheelchair users can be seated in the side seats in row 16, very close to one of the exit doors.

Other public access areas

Shop

People with reduced mobility can use the lift to reach the shop. There is a small rounded step ( 3.5 cm ) at the entrance to the shop which presents no major accessibility problems.

Once inside the shop, there are no major accessibility problems. There is just one narrow point but wheelchair users can still move around comfortably and safely. However, some of the shop fittings have protruding elements that people could bump into, particularly the blind and visually impaired.

Toilets

There are fully adapted toilets on the different floors: stalls, stalls circle, balcony and foyer.

Alternative communication systems

The theatre has different alternative communication systems:

  • Audiodescription is available for some of the productions (coordinated beforehand with associations for the blind).
  • All seats have screen in the back where the audience can see the production with subtitles in four languages.
  • There is a big LED screen above the stage.

Further information is available on the opera house website.
