Access
L'Aquàrium provides unrestricted access for people with reduced mobility via the ramp at one side of the man entrance.
Once inside the building, the aquarium proper is reached through the shop and provides no major problems in terms of accessibility.
Itinerary inside the building
L'Aquàrium has different floors that can be visited by the public. The different levels are made accessible by several ramps in different areas of the building. There are also two lifts that can be used by the public. One of these connects the basement, ground floor and first floor, while the second connects the first and second floors.
The lift connecting the basement, ground and first floors has no Braille or tactile signage to enable the visually impaired to use it unaided, and there are no tactile signs the landings. However, the second lift does have tactile signs and Braille signs inside the cabin and outside on the landing.
As far as the ramps are concerned, most of them are moderately sloping enabling wheelchair users to go up and down them unaided. Nevertheless, some of the ramps, such as the one at the end of the basement visit, which allows access to a large aquarium, is quite steep (17%), meaning that wheelchair users require assistance to go up and down the ramp.
In the basement there is an area with a moving walkway which is wide enough for a wheelchair. However, users should avoid turning their wheelchairs so they don't hit the sides, and look out for the end of the walkway.
Adapted toilet
L'Aquàrium has an adapted toilet in the basement and another on the first floor. Both toilets provide good disabled access. Nevertheless, it is important to bear in mind that there are no grab rails in the cubicle in the basement toilet and this could pose problems for people with reduced mobility.
Alternative communication systems
L'Aquàrium has an e-mail address which can be used to request information. It also has a website.
At the time of writing, there is no information available as to whether there are alternative communication systems for the sensorially impaired.
